More than just a gym workout!

“More than just a gym workout”

In 2013 many so called fitness companies are gaining steam, by adding many new locations with all kinds of different stuff. From the global mega gym Lifetime, to the other local company snap fitness adding fitness centers to truck stops. This is great if gives people more places to workout, but at what price? When I say that you probably are thinking about how much a membership is, and that is in most cases what everyone else thinks. But I believe that places to workout are not nearly enough. In my experience, you need to work out together because its way to easy to slack on your own. It also helps when you have someone leading the workout that has been in your shoes before, and has gone above and beyond normal expectations of a person in the same time of workout before. It also helps immensely when you can get to know each other and build a professional emotional relationship. Like that of the football coach and the player. This not only gets people to workout harder, but this is what keeps people coming back, for more punishment =) I say that in the lightest form you can imagine. Basically it has been my experience that people simply want to be called out when they are slacking, because they know they can do more pushups, situps etc. But they just don’t want to, or the don’t want to deal with their muscles on fire from the latic acid. In all, to get great results I believe that it doesn’t’ matter how big or convenient your place to work out it is, it is much more important that you feel at home, and inspired by the people that you workout with. If the place does not believe in that it will show. It looks something like scanning and ID card while the 18 year old behind the counter answers the phone, or better yet is texting while you walk in without even acknowledge your existence. If you go to mega gym, or a small corp gym they, more often than not don’t know your name, or anything about you. That is because they could care less about you, your family, or why you workout. They just see you as a membership, and only 20% of members workout each month. That is what they want, because its less wear and tear on their facility and equipment. I have been in quarterly meetings, and in consulting sessions with many of the major gym chains, and I have heard this consistently throughout the industry over the last decade and a half. Until next time, find a place that everyone knows your name, and I promise you will be better off.
